The 1861 Oxford census

The 1861 census was taken on the night of Sunday 7/8 April 1861.

By now Oxford people were getting used to censuses, and Jackson's Oxford Journal published the following article on 6 April 1861 explaining the usefulness of the information that would be gathered in the following day's census:
