Thomas, son of Walter

Mayor of Oxford 1247/8 and 1250/1

Thomas, son of Walter was also known as Thomas Submuro. He was the brother of Adam Submuro, who was bailiff in 1240 and 1241.

Their father, Walter, was known as “Walter sub muro”, suggesting that the family home was under the city wall.

Thomas was elected Mayor in 1247, and again in 1250.

Both Thomas and Adam Submuro appear in a list of “nomina maiorum burgensium Oxonie” in 1253.
