Mayors of Oxford

1836–1962

The Municipal Corporations Act came into force on 1 January 1836.
A new council was formed that day and a new Mayor elected to complete the council year which now ran to 31 October.

From 1836 to 1948 the Mayor's term of office began on 1 November.
From 1949, elections were held in May and the Mayor chosen immediately afterwards.

A woman was elected Mayor of Oxford for the first time in 1933.
