Oxford Ghost Signs: Lewis Field at 27 Iffley Road

27 Iffley Road

Lewis Field at 27 Iffley Road#

The words L. FIELD (27) DECORATOR in the glass over the front door of 27 Iffley Road (right) remember Lewis Field. By 1911 he was living here with his wife and daughter, moving to Jack Straw's Lane when he retired in about 1937.

As well as being a decorator, Lewis Field owned Jack Straw's Farm in Headington. He was the father of Doris Field, who later created the Doris Field Memorial Park on part of the farm and founded the Doris Field Charitable Trust, which still gives away about £400,000 a year to local charities.
