Oxford Ghost Signs: Mr Therm at 118–119 St Aldate's Street

Mr Therm building

Mr Therm was the symbol designed in 1933 by Eric Fraser for the Gas Light & Coke Company of London and which was subsequently used to advertise gas for forty years.

He can be seen on the railings of both balconies of the present Sainsbury's Local at 118–119 St Aldate's Street:

Right balcony

This building, called Therm House, at 117, 118, and 119 St Aldate's Street was the Oxford & District Gas Company Offices and showroom from 1938 to the 1990s. This Oxford University image shows Therm House when it was brand-new in 1938.
