Somerville

 

This plaque was installed on Somerville College to mark the hundredth anniversary of the end of the First World War, and was unveiled on 11 November 2018 by Somerville alumna Baroness Shirley Williams (daughter of Vera Brittain. It reads:

The students of Somerville (then a college for women only) were evacuated to Oriel College, and 262 beds were provided here for convalescing soldiers (latterly officers only).

This was just one of the nine buildings (not including VAD hospitals) that were used as part of the 3rd Southern General Hospital.
