1 mile to Oxford (westwards)

 

This milestone dates from about 1736, but the arabic numerals used on this side indicate that the inscription dates from the nineteenth century. The original eighteenth century inscription with roman numerals is on the other side (below), but is much harder to read.

The road to London via Henley became a much less important route when the new London Road through Headington opened in the late eighteenth century
