North wall: South side of St Helen's Passage

At the Turf Tavern

Before it reaches New College, the north-east city wall is visible in St Helen's Passage. This part of the wall is Grade I listed (List Entry No. 1300145)

This passage starts at the north-west end of New College Lane, but can also be reached via Bath Place in Holywell Street. The wall is adjacent to the Turf Tavern, which was erected just outside the wall in the eighteenth century, when land inside was scarce. It was originally known as the Spotted Cow.
